SOUTHSEA COMMUNITY CHOIR
Led by Janet Ayers, est 2007.
We met on Tuesdays in term time 7.45-9.15pmish at Trinity Methodist Church hall, Albert Road Southsea.
Fees are £25/£20 for 6 week half term or £5 a go.
A natural voice choir open to all who want to find their voice and sing. All welcome from the experienced singer to the first-timer
No previous experience necessary, just the willingness to throw yourself in and get involved. Singing in a community choir can change your life! We sing for fun and for performance, with annual Christmas and Spring concerts raising money for local charities, plus Sing for Water Portsmouth every summer and busking performances for local events and festivals. Highlights include Wickham festival (see photo).
Be prepared to have fun and learn songs from all over the world in different languages. in harmony all unaccompanied!
There are warm ups and exercises using movement to get your breathing and singing better. All songs are taught by ear so no need to read music or read any words.

Join us again for a summer for singing and raising money for water aid! Sing for Water Portsmouth starts on Tuesday 19th July and runs for 8 weeks,
with the performance on Sunday 11th Sept 2pm venue tbc.
Fee is £45 and the first session is at Trinity Methodist on 19th July 7.30pm until 9.30pm,
then there after at the Salvation Army hall, Albert Road, from 7.30pm-9.30pm

We had a great Christmas concert in early December, raising over £700 for the church building fund at the Rowan’s Hospice. Very entertaining Christmas Party at the Square Tower and a lovely sing at QA Hospital foyer just before Christmas: thank you to all for taking part
Thank you all for another successful Sing for Water Portsmouth, we raised just over £1,800 this year! Great fun was had at the Square Tower including Mike & Sue’s Water Bucket challenge for Water Aid, during the finale of ‘Bring Me Little Water Sylvie’!
Thank you one and all for a very successful concert on Sunday 11th May at St Judes, Southsea. We raised £730.97 for Naomi House/Jack’s Place Caterpillar Appeal. Here is a photo from the rehearsal just before the concert, where the mass choir of Southsea Community Choir, Sounds Lively Singers (IOW) and Southsea Infants school were practicing ‘Thina Simunyae’ by the Agape Children’s Choir (South Africa).
A great afternoon was had by all! Thanks also to ‘Squally Shower’ blokes shanty group, for their debut performance at the concert, who went down a storm!
Catering crew and front door helpers were wonderful! Serving tea/coffee and home made cake to over 200 people in 20 minutes must be a record!
Our Spring Concert is going to be a lively affair on Sunday 11th May 2pm at St Judes Church, Kent Rd, Southsea, with Southsea Infants, Sounds Lively Singers (IOW) and the debut performance of Squally Shower (Blokes Sea Shanty Group) and of course the Southsea Community Choir. Tea/coffee and cake all included in the £5 ticket price and we’re raising money for Naomi House.
Watch out for us at the Daisy Chain Festival, Albert Rd on Sat 14th June and hopefully The Wickham Festival on Sunday 17th August, and Sing for Water Portsmouth on Sunday 14th Sept 2pm Square Tower, FREE mass choir performance, but bring your pounds and pennies for Water Aid!
We celebrated Christmas in style with the Pompey Pluckers at the Trinity concert in early December, raising over £1000 for the Church building fund & Enable Ability.
The Singing Social at the Square Tower was a roaring success, with various members doing a turn and having a turn, all in the cause of entertainment!
We also had a seasonal sing at QA Hospital in the foyer, the Saturday before Christmas, which was well received.
2014 we are looking forward to our Spring Concert at St Judes Church Southsea on Sunday 11th May 2pm with pupils from Southsea Infants School & choirs from Southampton/IOW, Wickham Festival appearance early August, Sing for Water 14th Sept at the Square Tower 2pm, plus some busking and impromptu appearances!
Join the Southsea Community Choir to sing for water! Learn seven songs in eight weeks over the summer and raise money for Water Aid.
Starts on Tuesday 16th July until Tuesday 3rd September in, Southsea.
The performance will be on Sunday 8th September 2pm at The Porters Garden, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard
(free event). Fee: £40 for 8 weeks, includes teaching cd and music.
This year is a ‘best of’ selection from previous years, including Georgian, African, AfroBrazilian & American Pop! No experience necessary, just willingness and commitment to give it a go.Serious fun for the summer!
‘Sing for Water’ is celebrating its 12th year! Started by Helen Chadwick, the project’s aims were to bring together choirs from all over the country to sing and raise money for Water Aid.
